Gaming is huge on the iPhone, and Apple looks more and more like they’re accepting their place in the mobile gaming space. During the iPhone OS 4 unveil, Apple specifically said that they “blow [Sony and Nintendo] out of the water.” To further add to the functionality of iPhone games, Apple is adding a new social network, called “Game Center”.
Game Center, which is a social gaming network for the iPhone — it sounds a lot like Xbox Live, actually It’s has a friend system, leaderboards, and achievements — and we’re guessing it’ll blow up out of the gate, given how many games are on the platform. It basically adds an Xbox Live element to the iPhone creating an online gaming community. This really blew us away as we went to the event under the impression that Apple was developing a Google Android killer. To our surprise it looked like Apple was after the Nintendo, PS3 and the Xbox market.
Iit’ll launch later this summer. We’re hunting for more info, we’ll let you know!
